Kenotaphion - Jonty Semper

When Jon Bewley from Locus+ first told me about this work, I was astounded by the simple beauty of it. Kenotaphion is the compilation by artist Jonty Semper, of every two-minute’s silence recorded at The Whitehall Cenotaph Remembrance Day services during the 20th century. Jon gave me the cd to listen to, and the idea of the artwork sat so well inside my mind that I didn't want to ruin it by listening to the actual audio - what if it sounded better inside my head as an idea? What if I ruined my experience of Kenotaphion by listening to it? But I did listen and it and a million ideas sparked in my head. I have been generously given permission to work with Kenotaphion as a primary text for new work.
