Newcastle Journal, Saturday July 26th 1941
Sunday Sun, July 2th 1941
While I was hunting for this information, I discovered that the Newcastle Journal micro fiches covering 1941 have been missing for two years. I hefted around these enourmous journals and got chatting to some of the local World War buffs. It was really fascinating (and completely made sense once I thought about it) to hear that during war time, not only was information kept on the down low to keep enemies in the dark, but something like the head of a monument being hit by lightning was also downplayed to keep troop moral up while they were overseas.
